A site plan for a 5,000 square foot
Child CareCenter led to the design
for this facility. An emphasis on
child and adult scales has been
applied throughout. Social spaces,
courtyards and circulation are
centered around the sky lit Large
Motor Room. Adjacent functional and age-specific classrooms
are immediately accessible in order
to maximize the utility of each
square foot.
Seeing, approaching and entering
the Drop-In Center are all part of the daily
routine for the child and the parent.
The frequent experience of being
trasported to and from this place
introduces the child to various parts
of the city. Once here, its curved
wall, flanking wings, and pitched
small roof embrace the child. Inside, the child experiences a microcosm
of the city with its squares, streets,
and parks. |
